BURIED, TRIPWIRE-ACTIVATED BOUNDING ANTI-PERSONNEL FRAGMENTATION MINE
Cylindrical, olive green metal-bodied mine. Externally smooth casing, PROM-2 is serrated on the inside of the casing. Diameter - 85mm Height - 200mm Weight - 3kg Charge - 425g TNT Combination fuze for tripwire or pressure activation.
Fuze is screwed into the top of the mine. About 30mm of fuze protrudes above ground when the mine is buried. Tripwire is usually laid close to or on the ground, this is sometimes protected by pressure-operated blast mines, laid along the course of the tripwire. A safety collar is positioned around the fuze, just below the prongs. When fixed it prevents any movement of the fuze. On activation the mine bounds to 700mm – 800mm above the ground before the main explosive charge detonates. Hazardous to approximately 65 metres.
