Type 41 was first issued as a normal smokegrenade with an adapter instead of a wooden stick as shown in the drawing below.
The 2nd type in the picture was a different design body that would accept the igniter without this adapter. A stick was no longer possible on this grenade. It had only two smoke emitting holes.
