The Bertrand gasgrenade had no fuze whatsoever.
It consisted of 6 steel segments around a glass ampoule which contained liquid teargas.
The whole was kept together by a steel wire.
When thrown, the impact on the surface would make the segments move and break the glass, and releasing the liquid which would vaporize.
