This grenade must have started off as an improvisation, but were assembled in workshops in large quantities as they appear to be well useable. A smooth or fragmented body, filled with High Explosives, was attached to a wooden stick. On top of this stick there was a small wooden block fixed to the stick, carrying a nail, a primer and a piece of safety fuze with crimped detonator. The detonator (crimped to the safety fuze) was inserted into the steel body which was then made waterproof with wax. The backside of the stick had a carrying hook attached.

The photo below shows another version of the French imrovised stickgrenade. This one also had a cast steel cylindrical body, fixed with wire on a wooden stick.
