This mortar shell appeared to be used as a grenade. All "mortar" parts were taken off, and a grenade fuze and base plug were fitted. I haven't found any documentation on this one. If you have any, please let me know.
Below: The billiant fuze is the one in my collection and shown as an example. The grenade body shown below was recovered, as shown, on a Somme battlefield. It's the same grenade as Paul has.
